José (Flako) Rojas

Biographie

Venezuelan artist. Studied at the Instituto Superior de Danza as well as Literature at the Universidad central de Venezuela. As a self-taught person, he develops a training based in yoga, dance techniques, acrobatics and physical theater among others. He found the dance company Caravana Danza Teatro from 2002 until 2010. Creator and artistic director of the National Theatre Company of Venezuela . Dancer, actor and teacher of several dance and theater companies. Founder member of the traditional music group La Trapatiesta. He created the group Sondanzante with investigative purpose as a teacher and looking a way to promote and project Venezuelan traditional dance. Actor in several short films from the Venezuelan industry. Selected artist for the artistic residence program Mexico-Colombia-Venezuela. Invited as a dancer for the Italian company Silvestremente directed by Rafaella Rosellini. He received the Audience Award for Best Choreography, at the International Masdanza Festival 2004, Canary Islands, Spain. He lives in Belgium, where he has worked with La Fura del Baus” La Troupe du possible and Colletif Au Quai. Since 2012 he is a teacher in the dancecompany Ultima Vez, directed by Wim Vandekeybus, and Key teacher of Idocde (International documentation of contemporary dance education ). At the same time, he develops his film and photographic project Flakogramas. Flakorojas has presented his work in more than 60 international festivals in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Brazil, Mexico, United States, Germany, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Holland, Denmark, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, and China.
